This group project aimed to reimagine and redesign how the internet could operate without relying on fossil fuels, envisioning a more sustainable and desirable future

New Era of Language

For the Post-Growth Toolkit, we began by generating as many ideas as possible, thinking far outside the box to better understand the brief’s objectives. We divided our brainstorming process into three sections: exploring a simplified internet, considering the potential of being less globally connected, and identifying the need for more sustainable energy options.

While the internet has greatly enhanced global communication and interaction, it has also resulted in high energy consumption, contributing to environmental harm. We believe that developing a new, universal language comprised of fewer characters could not only reduce energy demands but also improve communication between countries.

The foundation of this new language is based on symbols derived from the paths of letters on a keyboard, allowing for shorter messages and, consequently, less energy consumption. After developed research and design testing, I began drafting advertisement concepts, exploring different typography styles, color schemes, and layouts to determine the most effective way to communicate the concept of our ‘New Language.’

New Era of Language

To better visualize my designs, I conducted tests using mockups, which allowed me to see how our new language would appear on a screen and sparked additional design ideas. Through further testing and refinement, I developed the concept of using mobile phones to display our new language, illustrating the transformation of letters into symbols.
